We are making history around here! Justin “Bobby” Vogel, gets ordained to the priesthood on June 1. He’s the first priest to come from the parish in several decades.
Deacon Vogel said it was three words that changed his life and led him on the path to the priesthood. Read about his journey in this article by The Criterion.
And speaking of history: St. Ann celebrates its 183-year history this month! St. Ann saw several priests, brothers and nuns come from their parish. The three priests were the Archbishop of Sante Fe, New Mexico Albert Daeger, Fr. Nicholas Walter who was ordained in Paris, France and died in Nagasaki, Japan in 1931 and Franciscan Father Vigil Daeger who died in 1936. St. Mary’s saw two men from the parish become priests: Fr. Joseph Klein in 1893 for the Diocese of Austin, Texas and who is buried in the St. Mary Cemetery and Fr. Lester Burgmeirer ordained in 1960 for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Many women also entered the religious life from St. Mary from the 1800s to the 1960s.
We also have four other men–Kristopher Garlitch, Nathan Thompson, Aidan Hauersperger and Noah Sherman –studying for the priesthood from our three churches of St. Ann, St. Mary and St. Joseph!
